Cleaning Your Jewelry

Over the years of providing jewelry services, I have seen many instances of  jewelry that has not been regularly cleaned and checked for years and years.

Regular cleaning of you jewelry is an important habit to keep, not only for the beauty of the jewelry but for your health as well.

I was recently reading an article written by a fellow jeweler who stated,

“People are just not conditioned to clean their jewelry. They buy a piece of jewelry, they put it on and over time it gets very dirty. I started thinking to myself, something’s wrong. What’s building up underneath all these prongs is disgusting.”

They took 10 pieces of jewelry that were dirty and found a lab in New Jersey that tests water for bacteria. They found, "It was loaded with bacteria. Off the charts.”

We have had clients come in that could not understand why there were getting a severe rash under and around their ring. When they take their jewelry off we find the underside of the ring is packed with an accumulation of dirt and substances like soap, lotion, and food. After time, these particles get wet on a daily basis and bacteria starts to grow within your jewelry. Not only is this unhealthy, but precious metals, diamonds, and gemstones cannot sparkle when they are dirty.

A daily home cleaning of your jewelry, not only stops this from happening, but also keeps the bacteria from building up within your jewelry. At Richard Dolgin Private Jeweler we are happy to provide clean and checks using professional equipment in our state of the art jewelry shop. We also sell wonderful jewelry cleaner, made to our specifications, that will keep your jewelry beautiful when used on a regular basis.
