One of my favorite gemstones is Aquamarine. The mesmerizing blue has the color of the Caribbean Sea.
It should be no surprise that this gemstone's name comes from the Latin word for seawater and is said to calm waves and keep sailors at sea. Aquamarines are mined in Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria and Madagascar. The deeper the blue the higher the quality of the gem. Aquamarine a variety of the mineral beryl that is green-blue/blue. Emerald is the green variety of the same mineral.
Last year we were lucky enough to buy a 51.32 carat natural beryl aquamarine. This stone was of gem quality. One of my dear friends fell in love with this stone and we created a spectacular pendant for the holiday season.
I also purchased an aquamarine from an estate set in a platinum mounting that had been visibly worn. We sent the stone to our stone cutter, who did a beautiful job re-polishing the aquamarine to its maximum beauty. We are presently designing a fabulous piece of jewelry for this stone.
