As we wrote in a recent blog we are in the midst of making ancient coins into modern art jewelry.
Every time I look at ancient coin jewelry, I feel like it doesn't even make sense to have something in my hand that is actually thousands of years old. We now have two pairs of earrings completed that turned out incredibly well. The first is made of 14k yellow gold and features two ancient Greek Drachma coins with the image of Gorgonelon Appolonia Pontika on the obverse. The reverse shows the image of an anchor and crayfish. The coin dates from the late 5th-4th century BC. Marsha also enhanced these earrings with aquamarine briolettes.
The second pair features two matching ancient Roman Empire Constantinian coins cAD 330-340. The coins show the She Wolf twins on the reverse and a Roman soldier on the obverse. These earrings are made of 14k yellow gold and pearl beads.
The process of procuring each coin, then a perfect match seems like it would be almost impossible considering the age of these ancient relics. After we find the pair, designing the perfect pair of earrings that is still stylish without hiding the magnificent piece of history is a challenge. These earrings are truly unique, blending art with a wonderful story.
